Around-the-Clock Care for Pets in Critical Condition

When the unthinkable happens and your pet needs specialized medical attention, our critical care unit is available at any hour, every day of the year. Carriage Hills Animal Hospital is the only veterinary facility in Montgomery that offers a critical care unit that is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Specialized equipment is used to aid in intensive monitoring of vital signs and intravenous fluid rates.

Patient care is provided by highly trained individuals that continuously monitor and treat your sick or injured pet. A nurse or veterinarian will contact you daily with a report of your pet’s status. If any significant changes in your pet’s condition are observed, the veterinarian will contact you immediately.

Visiting Your Pet in Critical Care

We encourage regular visits to patients in critical care as an important aspect of the recovery process. Familiar smells often calm and reassure an anxious pet; therefore, personal items such as stuffed toys or blankets are permitted in our critical care ward. Snacks, treats, and special foods are also permitted for pets not on a restricted diet. Please label any personal items with your pet’s name.

Because pain management is crucial, your pet may be lightly sedated when you visit. During this time, feel free to touch and handle your pet for the comfort and reassurance it brings.

Critical Care Visiting Hours:

  • Monday – Friday: 8–9 a.m. / 12–1 p.m. / 5–6 p.m.
  • Saturday: 8–9 a.m. / 12–1 p.m. / 3–4 p.m.
  • Sundays: Boarding pickup and critical care visitation from 5–6 p.m.

Referral Patients

If your pet has been referred for critical care, we work closely with your veterinarian in creating a treatment plan. Once the patient’s condition is stabilized, your pet can be transferred back to your regular veterinarian for follow up.
